Come work with us

What the work actually is

There is no job like it. You get to watch someone become themselves: the first steps, the first proper sentence, the first time a child who couldn’t share does. You’ll be the person a two-year-old wants when they’re upset. Parents will trust you with the person they care most about in the world and you’ll earn that trust every day.

It’s also physical, and it’s tiring. You’ll be on the floor, outside in the rain, carrying children who are heavier than they were last month. Some days are relentless.

If you find small children properly interesting, this is the work for you.

What you can expect from us

We want our early educators to feel they belong here too. When you do, you’re ready to thrive, and so are the children.

Grow in your own direction

We are a growing group of nurseries across London and Bristol, which means there is somewhere to go.

Room leader, deputy, manager. Specialist routes in SEND or safeguarding. Qualifications from Level 2 upwards, including apprenticeships if you’re starting out.

Not everyone wants to manage, and we won’t push you towards it if you don’t. Some of the best practitioners we have are exactly where they want to be and getting better at it every year. Growing in your own direction means yours, not a ladder we’ve drawn for you.

You’ll be trained in the Katey’s House Curriculum and its programmes, including Little Wandle, Zig-Zag Zumba and Restful Rituals.

Wellbeing

You can’t nip out for a coffee. You can’t take five minutes on your phone. In this job the room needs you for the whole of the day, and that’s the part people outside early years don’t understand.

So we’ve built the breather into the room instead. Restful Rituals is a trained practice that runs in every one of our nurseries: the lights down, a chime, an ocean drum, the same sequence every day. It’s designed to help children settle and learn to manage their own feelings. But a room that has just gone calm is a different place to be standing in, and that’s for you as much as for them.

There’s more coming. What we’ve started with is the shared version, and we’re developing sound and breathwork sessions specifically for our teams.

Speak up

If something isn’t right, for a child, for a family or for you, we want to hear it.

You’ll be trained to notice things and to raise them, including with people more senior than you. When you do, it gets acted on, and no one is ever penalised for speaking up.

How to apply

Have a look at what’s open below. We don’t wait for closing dates. Apply and we’ll look at it, and you’ll hear back from a person either way.
